Directors' Tips - From Andrew & Tyler
- Always allow your films to take time to make. This is the key to success.
- Don't use programs like Windows Movie Maker to capture your frames with. You can use it for
effects, but rely on frame capture programs such as Monkey Jam for frame capture. Go to
this website to download the software.
- Don't use too slow of a frame rate. For example, 5 frames per second (FPS) isn't going to give you
that smooth footage that you hoped for. It would be very unrealistic, and your movies would be
unpopular. But with 15 FPS, you can really go far.
- Use a good quality camera. A Webcam that is $15 doesn't compare to a $40 camera. Get the more
expensive one, depending on your budget, but always be aware of different cameras from different
companies. Choose which ever company has more professional software.
- If you intend to have good frame rate and quality, using programs such as Monkey Jam, Sony Vegas (not free) and
Papagayo, which helps with lip-sync.
- If you have a webcam, there may be some setting that automatically adjust lighting. This is not
a very good option. You want to turn these off before starting your film. Some of this cumbersome
software includes Logitech RightLight. You also want to manually adjust the exposure and grain of your
image.
